Lagos Airport Terminal MapLagos airline loungesLagos airport Hotel
Lagos airport, known as Murtala Muhammed International Airport to it's passengers, is the main airport in Nigeria for the capital Lagos, and seven miles (12km) northwest of it.

There are two terminals. The international terminal is designed based around a model of Amsterdam Airport as it was in the 1970s, and was opened in 1979. It is little changed since opening.

The domestic terminal used to be called Ikeja Airport, and is a much smaller building beside the main terminal, but still a mile from it. Beware of walking between the two, particularly at night. However, local taxis charge US$80 for the 1.5km journey.

Lagos airport used to be well know as a dangerous airport, with warnings that it was unsafe for passengers who could be robbed at gunpoint within the secure area, and who found it impossible to pass through the airport without paying bribes. Taxiing aircraft had their cargo holds emptied. However, a new 'shoot on sight' policy has made the airport much safer. Bribery has also been reduced to the "You must give me something, small-small" level. However, do not attempt to leave the airport terminal at night in a taxi or car.

Beware of opportunist unofficial 'porters' hanging around the main entrance. If you use one of these, you are unlikely to see your luggage again.
