Lufthansa Business Lounge Berlin Brandenburg

It is no surprise there is a Lufthansa lounge at Germany's capital Berlin. What is a surprise is that there are now two lounges, and both are nearly brand new. Having already been revamped, within a year of the airport opening.

Of the two new Berlin lounges that Lufthansa has reopened recently, the Business side is the least changed, with just new furniture placed in the old joint lounge.

The Business Lounge offers a multi room experience, with four main areas, buffet dining, a large library, and great runway views.

Business Class passengers and Star Alliance Gold members will find a great new lounge experience in Berlin.

NEWS: Lufthansa has reopened the two new Berlin lounges. Business and Star Alliance Golds will find a great new lounge experience in Berlin.

Berlin Brandenburg Lufthansa Business lounge review

The Lufthansa Business Class Lounge in Berlin is both large, new and swish. And pretty much empty most of the day between the occasional regional flights. It is right next to the Lufthansa Berlin Senator Lounge.

Both lounges offer stellar views of the runway and are located on the North Pier of Terminal 1, which is quite a hike from the central part of the terminal where you enter.

The lounges are located at the north pier of Terminal 1 close to gate B20 - the Senator facility is brand new, while Business lounge has undergone a refurbishment programme, to raise it to the same standard as the new Senator lounge.

As you enter g up the steep stairs, then turn sharp left at the lounge entrance where your boarding card is checked and there is a large curved white workbench in the centre, with smaller alcoves off this space for a more private lounge experience.

Turn sharp right, and you'll enter a strange room with a giant bear - it is Berlin after all. Here, a large part of the lounge seems to be partitioned off with vertical wooden dividers, but there is also a good view over the runway. This part of the lounge is called by Lufthansa a 'TV Club'. It isn't: there is just a moderately sized TV screwed to the wall. But it is pleasantly enclosed, but far from the area where guests can enjoy "classical music, concert broadcasts and films", according to the poster outside the lounge.

Head back out into the central room, and then right, and on the right of this corridor is a small smoking room, however at the end of this corridor is a wonderful space, with great views over the runway. Here you'll find a library of illustrated books for guests to appreciate. This is the famous "a wall of books" provided by the teNeues publishing house, and some of them are very good indeed, with a wonderful selection of large illustrated guidebooks to historic treasures in Germany and the UK. Plus a few objet d'art.

This area boasts panoramic tarmac views with the Berlin skyline in the distance, with seats around bookshelves that overlook the views.

Throughout the lounge though there is comfortable seating with power outlets in the armrests or in the wall.

Back in the central lounge, and turn left, and you'll enter a strange kind of lobby with what appears to be access to a boarding gate. That is exactly what it is, as Lufthansa hoped to offer direct boarding to long haul aircraft, when it was planned that Berlin would offer direct flights to London, New York, and further afield.

However, the older style lounge was opened, mothballed for a decade, and since then Berlin moved from being a potential hub airport, to at the end of a spoke, and now the airport boasts Lufthansa flights just to Munich and Frankfurt: even the old flights direct to London are no more.

Keep on going through the rooms, as the Berlin Lufthansa lounge, which was remodelled early 2023, now embraces a "modern room concept" dividing the spaces into zones for rest, conversation and work, in a kind of boutique hotel-like style, but with Lufthansa's classic blandness.

Hence, opposite the fake gate that is not a gate area is an area with just two beige recliners, behind a large screen. Facing a door to the service area. It's all a bit odd.

Finally, at the far end of the lounge is the buffet and bar area. Here, on the right, is a work shelf with power sockets, behind which is a hygienic and function area with dining tables and chairs. What it lacks in atmosphere, it makes up for in cleanliness.

There is a long refectory bench, at the nearer end is the station for the 'dish of the month', and at the far end is the bar.

The lounges are located at the north pier of Terminal 1 close to gate B20 - the Business lounge has undergone a refurbishment programme, but is nowhere as good as the Lufthansa Berlin Senator lounge which is brand new.

Food

The dining in the Lufthansa Business Class Lounge Berlin Brandenburg is OK, with good solid German catering.

There are normally two hot dishes, boiling away in a tub, and another bowl of hot soup which changes daily.

There is a large salad bar, with the usual Lufthansa Senator selection of potato, cabbage and cucumber, plus gherkins and olives. Don't miss the ham cheese and tomato, plus various odd kinds of lard type dips.

There are also an all manner of breads.

There are also some good deserts in the fridge, and packets of biscuits and nuts.

Finally, at the far end of the counter is the 'dish of the month' with a local delicacy that changes, as the name implies, each month.

Bar

The bar in the Lufthansa Berlin Business Class Lounge is excellent, contrasting the rather run of the mill dining.

The bar is to the right of the food servery, with the classic Lufthansa 'Perspex box of wine' with three or four bottles sitting in a plastic square box to chill them.

There is usually a German sparkling wine, and if you are lucky a German sparkling rose wine as well.

Beers is good, with two taps dispensing draft Becks and Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier. Logoed glasses are behind the beer pump. There is also a bucket here with bottles of beer, with three types of Becks (plain, light, and lime flavour).

Up on a glass shelf is an amazing array of spirits, with 20 bottles in total, including some special Gins from the UK.

There is a coffee machine, and a decent range of tea.

Business Facilities

There very good free and fast wifi in the Lufthansa Business Class lounge, which is far better than the Berlin Brandenburg airport supply.

There is a very good, old fashioned, magazine rack, which is still stocked with Berlin newspapers.

Bathrooms

In lounge, but outside it, in the arrival lobby.

Access

Lufthansa and SWISS first and business class, Miles & More Senator, HON Circle frequent flyers departing on a Lufthansa, Star Alliance or eligible codeshare partner flight and Star Alliance Gold cardholders departing on a same-day Lufthansa or Star Alliance flight.

Lufthansa also offer the chance to buy entry to the lounge if you are in economy. It costs 39 euro, but you'll need to buy a voucher in advance, and you can only access this lounge.
