Brisbane Emirates Lounge

The Brisbane Emirates lounge is a standard Business Class Emirates outstation lounge, but a good one. It has a couple of unique characteristics. Firstly, it was the first ever lounge Emirates opened outside Dubai, back in 2008. And secondly, it is very large, for an outstation lounge, and was opened at a time when Emirates was hoping to mop up a lot of the trans-Tasman traffic. The Brisbane Emirates lounge can accommodate 172 guests, with 106 in the lounge area, 56 in the dining section and 10 in the business centre. There are massage chairs, leather armchairs, flat-screen televisions and designer bathrooms and shower facilities. To find the lounge, go to the new northern concourse to Brisbane's international terminal, and walk all the way along - and I mean all the way. It is at the far end. Then up the escalator, and at the top is a reception desk, behind which is a large coat and bag store. The lounge has a great water feature as you enter, and then a small seating area overlooking the car park. Walk past this area, and on tghe left, past the TV and room divider is the dining area. Oddly, the refectory areas overlook and are by the windows. Further around there are seats and a bench actually at the window if you want to enjoy the view.

Carry on - the dining area is separated by half height glass divider - and there is another seating area, and then the gate for your aircraft. The Emirates lounge at Brisbane International Airport offers a first for Australia - passengers can board their flights directly from the comfort of the lounge, including the top deck of the superjumbo Airbus A380. And finally at the far end is another seating area, which is always kept very quiet.

Food

There is a great selection of food in the Emirates Brisbane Lounge, with the usual round fridge with plated salads. Hot dishes are on the refectory counter, including a hot breakfast for the early morning flights. However, the Emirates Lounge in Brisbane only boasts a very limited a la carte menu: at breakfast time you can request eggs or an omelette.

Bar

There is a full bar, with several bottles of wine and a a good selection of spirits. There is champagne, on a bucket on the bar top. Don't miss the second bar. The first one is in the dining area, while there is a second bar at the far end, close to the boarding gate.
