Aberdeen British Airways Business Class lounge review
The Aberdeen British Airways Business Class Lounge is brand new, and delight. It is located within the recently completed extension of the airport.
The lounge is the latest of the 'post-Galleries' designs, and is surprisingly spacious for Aberdeen, until you realise that easily half of the passengers on a Heathrow flight are at least Silver card holders: the route is that busy and that popular.
Just head up the stairs, past the podium (no reception desk here!), and into the main body of the lounge. Here the lobby has been designed so that customers travelling through the lounge quickly, can get a quick bite to eat before they head off for their flight.
There are just two main rooms within the 380sq metre British Airways Aberdeen lounge. The first contains the large black bar, and the dining chairs. It lacks a view.
The second is much better. It has a fantastic view of the runway and the heliport operations, with wooden stools lined up along the windows. There are many more loungy type seats in the middle of the room. Virtually every seat has a lamp over it, which makes it great for reading. Each seat also has a little marble topped table, and a waste bin.
At the far end of the lounge is a small private room, blocked off from the main lounge, designed for VIPs.
The British Airways Aberdeen lounge houses bespoke furniture and fittings such as the feature walls, lighting and marble topped tables, similar to British Airway's new lounge in Rome.
British Airways' new Aberdeen lounge also features local artwork from the airline's Art Collection, including 'The Long Winding Shores' by Maddie Rose Hills inspired by Kinlochewe in the Scottish Highlands. It's just above the wireless printer.
Bar
The Aberdeen British Airways Lounge has a beautifully crafted granite topped bar looks amazing, and has a pretty wide range of drinks available. There are actually seats at the bar, similar to those at Rome, but in Aberdeen it's a help yourself, DIY affair.
There is a wine bucket, with three type of white, and a sparkling wine. Next to this are four types of red.
However, it is spirits where the bar comes into it's own. There is Vodka (Smirnoff, Grey Goose (teo types) Bacardi, Gin (Gordons, Bombay,) Campari (two types) Baileys, Southern Comfort, and whisky (Glenlivet, Red Label, Jameson, Gentleman Jack).
Food
Throughout the day there is a wide range of food on offer, and fruit in a three tiered shelf. The sandwich selection is superb - with five different types under plastic covers. Next to this are two types of cheese. Blue, and cheddar.
There is hot soup, which changes once a day, and the 'Baker's Basket' of different types of rolls near the soup.
Don't miss the biscuit selection on the other side of the bar, and the cake selection, including scones, with Cornish clotted cream.
At breakfast, don't miss the local delicacy, Aberdeen Rowies, which is a savoury Scottish bread roll.
There are pretty spartan dining chairs by the bar, but it's a pretty soulless place to sit.
Business Facilities
There is complimentary WiFi.
Pretty much every seat is near a USB and power point. At the window they are under the shelf.
Newspapers are good, with most of the main Scottish papers.
However magazines are some of the best in a BA lounge, with a lot of travel magazines, and three or four Scottish style magazines.
Alas, there are no PCs in the new British Airways Aberdeen lounge: the assumption is that you will bring your own device.
There are two TVs, on BBC News Channel, but with the sound turned off and using subtitles.
Bathrooms
In lounge, good clean and modern. No showers.
