British Airways Milan Linate Lounge

The new British Airways Milan Linate Lounge is somewhat of a half way house, and doesn't reflect the ultra-modernist design of the newer lounges in Rome, and Aberdeen.

There is a refurbished dining area, with new tables and chairs.

There are also new British-made Boss armchairs, specifically designed for British Airways.

These are complemented by relaxing, decorative lighting by UK based Tyson lighting. NEWS: The new British Airways Milan Linate Lounge is now in the airlines latest style, with a new look reception, along with a lighter, brighter environment, new seating, a hot buffet, and desks with USB and euro-style power sockets.

Milan Linate British Airways lounge review

The British Airways Milan Linate Lounge is a delight - once you find it.

It is airside, and down in the basement, so you have to wiggle through the small city-centre terminal, and then take the escalators down to the lower floor, turn left, and left again. There is a very small welcome podium - but don't think you can check in here. If you are airside, you'll have to go all the way back out past security to get a boarding card.

However, the lounge has a nice comfortable feel, even if there is no outside view. There are high quality Italian finishes, including terrazzo stone flooring and Carrara marble, but nothing really says Italy about the lounge.

Once inside, firstly you come to a large and oddly isolated newspaper rack.

The dining area is on the left, and hot food oddly in the middle of the lounge in the middle of a wooden divider.

Over on the right is the main seating area, and the main bar is at the far end of this, oddly again in the middle divider.

Finally, at the far end, is a large work table, which is often the busiest part of the lounge, with everyone on a laptop.

The righthand seating area is the most comfortable, and it full of new British-made Boss armchairs, specifically designed for British Airways. Between them are small tables with little lift up power sockets, which also have USB outlets. These are complemented by relaxing, decorative lighting by UK based Tyson lighting.

Food

There is a refurbished dining area in the British Airways Milan Linate Lounge, with new tables and chairs, over on the left, although they aren't particularly comfortable.

There are new hot meals, with what the airline calls 'enhanced dining options' which basically means two hot tubs, both with pasta dishes. Meatballs often pop up too.

The salads bar, on the opposite wall, is equally not so brilliant: there are six square perspex containers with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and sweetcorn. The odd tub with strangely opaque murky liquid is actually mozzarella cheese balls in brine, and very good it is too.

Other Italian cheese in on a cheeseboard at the back of the fridge.

There are plenty of good finger sandwiches, with some decent fillings including ham and cheese and egg.

Deserts are oddly very good indeed, with filled puff pasty concoctions.

Around the coffee machine are some pastries and croissants, plus some biscuits.

Don't miss the hot soup: it is beside the heated food cabinets, and in a strange rotating soup dispenser. Croutons are in a bowl beside it.

Bar

There is a fully stocked bar, and well up to the standards of all the new British Airways lounges.

It is in the far right hand side of the lounge: on the central divider.

There are two reds on the worktop, and two whites in the fridge trough, along with an Italian sparking white

Spirits are a decidedly odd bunch. Do the names Bosford gin, Giffard, Averna, Fernet-Branca, Disaronno, Montenegro, and Grappa Nothino mean anything to you? No, me neither, but that's what you can grapple with to make a decidedly Italian cocktail. However, on the upside, there Absolut vodka, and Aperol in small bottles. It could be worse.

Beer is in the fridge under the counter.

There are two large tubs of orange and grapefruit juice.

Business Facilities

Free wifi, but no computers.

There is a large worktable at the back of the lounge, with power sockets.

Newspaper rack by the entrance.

Wifi printer at the back of the lounge.

Bathrooms

Alas there are no bathrooms in the British Airways Milan Linate Lounge: you have to exit the lounge (making sure the lounge staff know this so you can come back in) and the toilets are opposite.

No showers either.

Access

British Airways's Linate lounge is open to the BA's Club Europe (business class) passengers, along with Silver and Gold members of the BA Executive Club frequent flyer program and Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald.

There is absolutely no pay in access.
