Plaza Premium Vancouver International Lounge

The International Plaza Premium Lounge is the main pay-per-use lounge at Vancouver Airport, in the international area, and is also used by some airlines such as Air China as their lounge at Vancouver.

The Plaza premium lounge Vancouver International airport is easy to find - the entrance is just past security, a short way down the 'ramp' with the shops heading into the main part of the terminal. There is a small reception desk (which is often unmanned when there are no flights scheduled to use the lounge) and then the lounge either stretches left or right.

It is a large lounge (6,000 sq ft - 280 seats) with lots of natural light streaming through the large floor to ceiling windows, and three main seating areas, although half of the lounge is often closed or reserved for airlines which are using it as 'their' lounge.

The lounge entrance is stunning, with natural stone columns that flank its entrance, and this reflects the design features of the Pacific Northwest throughout the lounge.

To the left of reception in the Plaza premium lounge Vancouver International airport is the main food and bar area, and then another smaller room, which is by far the best area to sit. Here there is also a large high bar area where you can sit and eat. Finally around the corner from here is a small private corridor with some cozy seating, and two sleeping rooms (called the Nap room), with very comfortable armchairs.

There is a small bookable VIP room.

And don't miss the three nap rooms, with private single beds (although you may have to pay extra for them).

All in all, it is one of the best pay in lounges in North America.

Food

Food is better than you would expect in a generic lounge - and certainly better than in the Vancouver International Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge.

Don't miss the noodle bar, where you can get signature Hong Kong style fish ball noodle soup.

A smaller area near the lounge entrance advertises the food on the way in, and it's really good, with decent sandwiches.

There is plenty of hot food, with three large round metal tourines with stew (chicken or beef) pasta, and rice. In the fridge are packets of sandwiches, and a pretty good salad mix, plus the usual carrots and celery plus ranch dip typical of American lounges.

On the shelf are packets of noodles which you can heat with hot water from the coffee machine.

There are also four jars with nuts and nibbles, biscuits in the tin, and a bowl of fruit.

Bar

The bar is also better than you might expect - and certainly better than in the Air Canada lounge, but worse than the British Airways lounge. In particular the wine selection is bad, with just one bottle of white in a bucket, and one mediocre red on the shelf beside it.

Spirits are good with ten bottles of everything from Canadian Club (did you expect anything else) Bacardi Black and Ballantines. Gin is Gordons, Vodka is Smirnoff.

Beer is in the fridge, with 8 types all in cans, including Canadian.

The coffee machine is worthy of note: it makes a very good latte, cappuccino or espresso.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are in the lounge, and are pretty special. There are several shower suites in the Plaza lounge along with a full set of amenities.

Business Facilities

There are decent business facilities in the Vancouver International Plaza Premium Lounge, with computers in small work area, and three more outside. There is free wireless internet in the lounge, and a printer. There are four TVs in the lounge, which are typically on local news channels. Newspapers are poor, with just one copy of each of the main local and international papers. There are no English papers, just US and Canadian ones, plus the Hong Kong press.

Access
