Lufthansa Business Class London Heathrow Lounge
The new London Heathrow Lufthansa Business Class Lounge in Terminal 2 is now open, and it provides a welcome relief from the busy terminal, being situated just around the corner, and right of security, and the Star Alliance security fasttrack.
The Lufthansa lounge is brand sparkling new, and designed with the latest Lufthansa decor, giving a light, bright, lounge, with good food, a decent free bar, and plenty of places to sit.
There is a decent buffet, complimentary bar, and plenty of places to sit. However, it is designed very much for short haul flights. If you have Star Alliance status, and plenty of time, there are much better lounges (United, Singapore) in the Satellite T2B area.
London Heathrow Lufthansa Business Class lounge review
The Lufthansa Lounge is located in the main building of terminal 2, T2A, so after check-in and security turn to the right beside the Weatherspoon's pub and the door to the Lufthansa lounge is beside the Aer Lingus lounge.
The LHR LH lounge is divided into sub-lounges. There is the Lufthansa Business Lounge, which is the one you first walk into, and then there is the Lufthansa Senator Lounge, for Star Gold members, at the far end, through the sliding grey automated door. However, they are both pretty similar.
The new Lufthansa London Heathrow lounge has seats for 350 passengers, and covers 1,600 square meters. This seems big, but at times - mainly Friday nights - it can get packed, and then some. The main issue is that it is also the SAS London Lounge, now that the old and sadly lamented LHR SAS lounge has closed, and it is also the closest lounge to security and the first one you come to, so many passengers just stop off here.
The Lufthansa Heathrow Lounge is in effect one large room on the Business Class side. As you walk in there is the newspaper rack on the left, and the Business centre with computers on the right. There are also phone cubical here where you can make a private call. Straight ahead is the coffee bar, with snacks.
Here, there is an odd angled bench, high up, with arm rests that double as coffee holders. It is neither comfortable nor aesthetically pleasing.
By the windows on the left is a vast area with lots of large leather chairs in rows. In lovely orange and dark beige, on a blue carpet. The height of fashion it is not, but it is comfortable, and all the chairs have small tables with power sockets between them.
On the other side of the pillars is the more welcoming eating and drinking area, with a small dining area with 2+2 chairs, before the bar and food servery, and then beside the door to the Heathrow Senator area, are high white benches with Lufthansa's great design of wobbly bar stools. There are further rows of armchairs in the corner, and indeed the rare luxury of a TV.
The new London Heathrow Lufthansa Business Class Lounge in Terminal 2 is a pleasant enough place to pop into, and indeed compared to the old Lounge in the old Terminal 2 it is a welcome new space. Thank goodness Lufthansa no longer refer to it as a Frequent Traveller lounge, with or without the double L.
It is the first London Heathrow Star Alliance lounge you come to in the new Terminal 2, and is also one of the busiest. If you have time - a lot of time - you can walk to the Satellite T2B area, and Air Canada's Maple Leaf Lounge and United's Club Lounge, which have better food and a great cocktail bar, however it can take a good 20 minutes to walk back to T2 again.
Food
Food in the Heathrow Lufthansa Lounge is OK, but there isn't all that much, and it tends to be of the same type as you'd find in any other Lufthansa Lounge.There is a bowl of salad, and unlike many lounges, it's all mixed together. There is also an unusual tub of herbed lard, another tub of tuna mix, and a chickpea variant.
There are lots of types of bread rolls, and a large silver ball of hot soup, which changes every day.
In terms of hot food, there are three hot trays with covers. Each has a couple of variants within, with a couple of types of meat (pork and beef are common), rice, and often a very good type of cheesy potatoes. The Pasta (with Parmesan cheese to sprinkle on top) is always very good too.
Bar
The bar in the Lufthansa Heathrow Lounge is good, but will never win any awards for its wines.There are two draft beer taps, with Becks and Budweiser on draft. There are also bottles of Becks in the fridge.
Four types of white are in the rotating cooler, including a sparkling white, and three types of red are on the worktop. These are fairly mediocre, but with an occasional surprise of a decent new world variety.
Spirits are again OK, but not with a great variety. There are ten bottles on the worktop, with Baileys, Red Label, Absolut Vodka, Campari and Jameson.
Soft drinks come a plenty, with six types, including coke, fizzy apple juice, and even fizzy cranberry juice.
The Lufthansa LHR lounge also has a very good coffee machine.

Business Facilities
There is a grand total of one single computer with an Internet connections in the LH lounge, on a shelf right in the centre of the Business Centre, so to speak. There are a lot of other work spaces in here too - it's pretty much assumed you'll bring your own technology.Thankfully the wifi is free and fast.
There is a decent rack of world newspapers right by the door, with the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and, for UK readers, a single copy of the Daily Mail. Thankfully there is a WH Smiths outside the door, so you can buy your own.
