Qatar Airways Garden Doha Al Mourjan Lounge North

The Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge Doha North is the brand new lounge on the block for Doha, and indeed for the middle east, where the brand new vast lounge is very much the lounge to head to.

In every way the new North terminal, and Qatar Airways' new Al Mourjan Garden Lounge, is spectacular, and it feels as exciting for the passengers as it does for the airline.

The comfortable seating overlooking the Garden Oasis, the great food and drinks, and above all the larger bar, makes this lounge a must head to destination, even if for most passengers it is more of a trek and a train ride to get to, and harder to find. Which in turn helps with the overcrowding. That makes it a top spot for a destination.

Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge Doha North review

The lounge is absolutely brand new feel. Indeed it even has a new lounge smell, of fresh paint and leather. It is also vast, at eighty thousand square feet, or 7200 square yards. The water features, occasional bars, and lots of chairs makes it feel like some vast hotel lobby.

It has a totally different atmosphere to the other Al Mourjan lounge in the south terminal, and again from the Gold & Platinum Lounge North which is just for frequent flyers with status: if you have a Business Class ticket, you should definitely head here.

The Qatar Garden lounge (or the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge Doha North, to give it it's full name) is wonderful, a real delight if you are stopping off en route in Doha, and also a right pain to get to. It is in the North Concourse - so that it normally a train ride away from where most of the gates are - and also very well hidden, with just a few small signs pointing to a glass lift in the main concourse separated by plant pots. Easy to find, it is not.

But first you have to find it, and that can be a challenge for some passengers. If you arrive on the train to the North terminal, walk straight ahead to the circular lobby, under the art statue, past the Louis Vuitton store by gate C22, and head for the small glass lift with no obvious signs whatsoever. This is the hidden lounge entrance. You need to walk up to the small podium, and are then waived to the lift, and enter the lounge proper, opposite the separate pay in Vitton lounge. One floor up, and there is the lounge reception, where only those with a real Business Class ticket are allowed through.

Once you are upstairs, it clear it is a vast space. Straight ahead is the Louis Vuitton Lounge with extra charges, but if you turn right there are banks and banks of seats, all identical armchairs, with natty side tables and a small lamp.

There is also the most amazing carved wooden bench. Indeed, there are two of these in the lounge, at either end.

If you can, head for the small hidden seats overlooking the balcony and the garden, as this is the most relaxed area. Right in the middle here is a single solitary sofa, which is heavily prized by families travelling.

In the inner area of the lounge there is also an area with sofas, six of them facing each other, as if the designers just gave up and put them all here.

The standout feature of the lounge is the vast long fountain with a pond runs through the middle of the lounge. Unlike the splashiness of the lounge in the south terminal, this one just kind of sits there, but there is a small current, to keep the water slowly moving through.

The middle of the lounge is taken up with dining options, and there are plenty of them. From seats in the middle of the lounge, to on the edges, benches, and even pleasant tables for two on the balcony.

The Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Garden Lounge has a smoking room inside the entrance and to the right.

The hidden door to the showers is in the middle of the lounge by the fountain.

By far the most comfortable area of the lounge is the bar at the far end, and beyond this is a small area of dining tables. Few passengers seem to head here, and even at busy times it is quick to get served with plenty of extra seats.

However, despite the difficulties of access, it can get very busy.

In the middle of the day, when very few flights take off in the heat, there are virtually no passengers, however from 10pm to 1am and from 5am to 7am, you'll be queuing out of the door, in line with Qatar's flight schedules.

Food

There is great dining in the lounge. Just head to an empty table, and order from the QR code on the little hexagon. If you really want, the staff will bring you a printed menu, but be prepared to wait some time for this, as they much prefer you to order yourself.

The a la carte food selection includes everything from a variety of fresh sandwiches, to salads, to beef, to fish, to pasta, to desserts.

You can also order from any of the buffet stands through the lounge. There is a great selection of small dishes, from cheese and ham croissants to small delicate desserts on display, however you have to ask the bar staff to serve you.

Alternatively there is also a buffet in the middle of the lounge. This is no where near as good as the a la carte selection, but it's adequate if you are in a hurry. It's in the inside part of the middle of the lounge, and there are generally four or five dishes of the usual curry, pasta, rice, and variants of chicken. The desserts here are good, and it's good if you are in a hurry, but in generally even the buffet counters offer better fare.

Bar

The cocktail bar in the middle of the lounge looks, and is, spectacular, and it's a great place to while away a few hours. There is also another much quieter bar at the far end of the lounge.

There are seats on three sides of the bar, and if you can find another customer, it's a great place to sit and chat.

The cocktail bar also has snacks under a glass cabinet at one end.

Laurent-Perrier Brut being the house champagne option. That's the same champagne served in the Al Safwa First Lounge, and great to find, although you have to specifically order it, as if you order just 'champagne' you'll end up with some random bubbles.

You can also serve yourself wine, which is vastly better than the South lounge, where you have to ask for it. It comes in a bucket with five different types, and is placed in a few locations around the lounge.

Don't miss the small fridge by the buffet area too. It has lots of wine, and a multitude of beer.

At the bars there is barista made coffee which isn't available in the other Al Mourjan Lounge.

Business Facilities

There are plenty of charging ports at all seats, including wireless charging at some seats.

There's a games room, featuring a pool table and a foosball table

The Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Garden Lounge kids room also has little ride on horses.

There are some lockers just inside the entrance to the lounge, which is very useful so you don't have to trundle your luggage around the lounge with you.

Bathrooms

Each shower suite features a walk-in shower and a sink. However, there are no toilets in the shower suites.

The Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Garden Lounge has 24 nap rooms, located inside the entrance of the lounge and to the left. These are available to guests on a first come, first served basis,

There are also be two spas. The main spa is run by Qatar Airways features a manicure and pedicure station, as well as neck and shoulder massage chairs, relaxation chairs, treatment rooms, and changing rooms. The lounge will also have a Dior Spa which offers much more expensive treatments.

Louis Vuitton Lounge

There is a separate 'lounge within a lounge' if you decide the main Qatar Airways Garden Doha Al Mourjan Lounge North

isn't good enough.

The Louis Vuitton Lounge comes with extra charges, but offers a 'deluxe setting' if you pay the extra, with lovely seats, and very attendant waiter service. Qatar say it is quintessentially Louis Vuitton, from monogrammed furniture to one-of-a-kind art pieces, and it certainly is different, more like a special cafe.

There is a special a la carte menu, curated by three-star Michelin Chef, Yannick Alleno, which offers gourmet dining and French favourites. The menu is quite pricey, from 20 dollars for sandwiches to 400 dollars for the six course tasting menu. Everything here costs money.

The Louis Vuitton Lounge is accessible from Al Mourjan The Garden Business Lounge, and entrance is available to Privilege Club Gold and Platinum members and their guests.
