Plaza Premium London Heathrow Lounge Terminal 2

The large central London Heathrow Plaza Premium Terminal 2 lounge is one of the best pay-in lounges at London Heathrow.

It's big, has good food, a great complementary bar, and wouldn't be out of place run by one of the main airlines.

However, it can be quite expensive to gain entrance if you don't have Priority Pass.

London Heathrow Plaza Premium lounge review Terminal 2

The large central London Heathrow Plaza Premium Terminal 2 lounge is a great pay in lounge, and one of the largest lounges in Terminal 2 at 8,100 square feet,.

To find the lounge, once in Terminal 2 A, head into the main part of the terminal, and then down the escalators, then turn right next to flight connections.

The entrance to the Plaza Premium LHR Terminal 2 lounge is amazing, and was designed by interior designer Kinney Chan of KCA Associates.

You enter up a dim hallway with an LED candle wall and mood lighting leading to a central altrium, with a cocktail bar to the left, It is large and airy, and wouldn't be out of place in a large hotel. There is recessed lighting, hardwood floors, abstract art fixed to the ceiling, and bonquets around the walls. With soft background music and an almost Asian décor it might be that you are already on holiday.

This area is pretty quiet - but then you head into the main lounge, which is on the right.

Here is the dining area, with a small buffet again on the right.

Walking around, you carry on to the main seating area, with a TV alcove. Computers are further on, in a small office environment. Then there is a snug, and finally two large work benches with power sockets.

Finally, at the far end, are work seats, rather like the Cathay Pacific Solus chair.

Everywhere there are nice decorative touches - even if the whole effect is rather like an episode of changing rooms in an urban loft, rather than an airport lounge - and subtle low level lighting.

It's also worthwhile taking a walk through the lounge, and checking out the different areas, all of which have a different feel to them.

Alas the Plaza Premium lounge has no windows or natural light, which is utterly disorientating after a few hours.

There are also private resting suites for those wanting to sleep, but again they come at an extra charge. These are to the left of reception.

However, the Plaza Premium London Heathrow Lounge is astoundingly expensive, because it is both at Heathrow and has a lot of demand. Rather than be a lounge you might want to just pop into, it is a lounge you would book for all three hours you need it before your flight.

Food

There is a decent buffet, with a really good breakfast including bacon and sausages.

Later in the day there is a good salad bar, and the LHR Terminal 2 lounge Plaza Premium has a selection of Asian and Europe-inspired dishes, including Halal prepared dishes, and seeing the company's success with its new Hong Kong lounges, it has an excellent pedigree in this area.

There is also a large salad bar, even in mid-winter, plus soup, and three large dishes with random hot meals, including pasta and rice, plus chicken or beef.

Bar

There is a great cocktail bar, right at the centre of the lobby area.

The bar is staffed - you can't just walk up and serve yourself - however everything is included, apart from Champagne, and some premium spirits.

This area is great for a social hub with many late night long haul flights to the US leaving out of Terminal 2.

Business Facilities

There is wifi, but you need the code from reception.

The tables at the back of the bar feature a 240 volt power socket (UK/Hong Kong plugs only) and USB socket at each seat.

There are televisions showing BBC News Channel with the sound turned down in the small TV nook.

There are small work booths, like the Cathay Pacific Solus chair, having a little side table and a power socket, however there are no real business facilities.

Bathrooms

In lounge, at the back of the bar, and left.

There are four shower rooms, which can best be described as tidy but small.

If you get a clean one, there are towels, wall mounted soap and shampoo dispensers, a comb and toothbrush. Alas ventilation is very poor, and the rooms are very humid.

Access

The Plaza Premium London Heathrow Lounge Terminal 2 is accessible to passengers in economy without status: packages start from £35 per person for 2 hours, to £70 for a virtually unlimited 10 hours of use including food, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, complimentary wifi and a shower.

Bookings can be made through plaza-network.com, but beware that this will charge you in US dollars (2 hours $49; 5 hours $79; 10 hours $84) and you must pay a currency conversion charge with a UK card; you have to pay at the desk to pay if you want to use your sterling.

The Plaza Premium London Heathrow Lounge Terminal 2 also accepts Priority Pass, which can work out to a lot cheaper than paying on the door.
