London Heathrow Plaza Premium lounge review

The large central London Heathrow Plaza Premium Terminal 4 lounge is a great pay in lounge, and flooded with natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows and central skylight, it's big, has good food, a great complementary bar, and wouldn't be out of place run by one of the main airlines.

It can get crowded - and then some - late in the evening, but mid-afternoon you can be the only passenger in here.

To find the Plaza Premium Heathrow Terminal 4 lounge, once airside head to Gate 1, near the Qatar lounge, then walk up the incline, and take the lift up to level 3 beside the Air India lounge.

The Plaza Premium Lounge Terminal 4 London Heathrow comes in two parts, with a central skylight at the entrance: it is very large, at 3,500 square yards, with eating is to the right and lounging with a bar to the left.

Everywhere there are nice decorative touches - even if the whole effect is rather like an episode of changing rooms in an urban loft, rather than an airport lounge - and subtle low level lighting.

Oddly right in the middle of the lounge, is a tree. But it adds to the calming atmosphere.

It's also worthwhile taking a walk through the lounge, and checking out the different areas, all of which have a different feel to them.

There are also private resting suites for those wanting to sleep, but again they come at an extra charge.

However, the Plaza Premium London Heathrow Lounge is astoundingly expensive, because it is priced in US dollars: there are some Plaza Premium Discount Codes, but they tend to only knock a few dollars off the price.

Food

Undoubtedly the centre of the London Heathrow Plaza Premium lounge is the black and white tiled kitchen area with live cooking station, which follows the 'open cooking' trend with other lounge operators.

The LHR Terminal 4 lounge Plaza Premium has a selection of Asian and Europe-inspired dishes, including Halal prepared dishes, and seeing the company's success with its new Hong Kong lounges, it has an excellent pedigree in this area.

There is also a large salad bar, even in mid-winter, plus soup, and three large dishes with random hot meals, including pasta and rice, plus chicken or beef.

Bar

There is a great cocktail bar, designed with hues of yellow and grey.

The bar is staffed - you can't just walk up and serve yourself - however everything is included, apart from Champagne.

This area is great for a social hub with many late night long haul flights to the Middle East and Asia leaving out of Terminal 4.

Around the corner of the bar area, there are small cocktail tables and corner sofas. However the fully serviced bar follows the trend in the United States by having a TV showing sports behind the bar, and bar stools in front: it will be interesting to see how this fares in the UK market, where this style of bar is less popular.

Business Facilities

There is wifi, but you need the code from reception.

The tables in front of the kitchen feature a 240 volt power socket (UK/Hong Kong plugs only) and USB socket at each seat.

There are televisions showing BBC News Channel with the sound turned down.

There are small work booths, like the Cathay Pacific Solus chair, having a little side table and a power socket, however there are no real business facilities.

Bathrooms

In lounge. Showers too, with amenities handed out by reception.
