Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold T2 Singapore Lounge

The good news is that the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold T2 Singapore Lounge is newly decorated, and indeed is on the site of the old Business Class SilverKris Lounge.

The bad news is that it is a small dark hole, although it has gained windows along the side of the terminal where previously there were none.

As a Star Gold, you are best coming here to T2 for the food & computers, and T3 for a lounge with windows.

There is an OK buffet, a small bar, and lots and lots of seats.

However, if you have time, take the train to the brand new Terminal 3 Krisflyer Gold lounge, which is vastly better.

Singapore Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold T2 lounge review

Firstly - are you sure you want to visit the KrisFlyer Gold lounge, and not the SilverKris Lounge? In Singapore terminology, a SilverKris will always trump a Gold. SilverKris is for Business, whereas the KrisFlyer Gold lounge in Singapore Airport Terminal 2 is designed for economy class passengers with a Gold KrisFlyer or Gold Star Alliance card, who cannot use the Silverkris lounge. Note that this is the reverse terminology to Frankfurt and Lufthansa, where Golds get better service.

As the key Star Alliance Lounge Singapore it looks inviting, and indeed isn't too bad, but from the entrance you get an impression of it's large size: you look down what seems to be a long long aisle of seats. These seats are the classic Singapore Airlines curvy brown leather armchairs. Comfortable to read a paper in, but terrible if you want a sleep for several hours before getting on a plane. At night there are therefore often prone bodies lying on the floor. Well proportioned coffee tables and lamps make it look quite appealing.

At the far end of the lounge is a huge TV screen, which blasts CNN over the lounge, mixing with annoying piano music. It isn't very calming or relaxing, and indeed it can't help but be small, stuffy, overheated and overused. It isn't substantially nicer than the public areas, although the food is all right, and free booze welcome. If only there were toilets in the lounge.

Alas, it is quite disappointing, particularly if you are flying half way across the wold. Unfortunately, the lounge dragons at the Silver Kris lounge next door across the way will attempt to direct Business Class Star Alliance passengers in here. Don't fall for it. You should have access to the much better SilverKris lounge.

Food

The selection of hot food has improved in the past few months, and now there are five hot tourines with noodles and rice, chicken and beef, and curry. In the morning the hot breakfasts are really not bad at all, with plenty of bacon and eggs.

There is soup (it changes every day), sandwiches in tightly wrapped clingfilm, and a very basic salad bar (basically just leaves, dressing, and croutons.

Next to the salad is a small selection of deserts.

All in all, the food selection here is the best you will get in any lounge at Singapore, if you are Star Alliance Gold. Business Class passengers however are better treated in the SilverKris lounge.

Bar

The bar is a major disappointment: The Singapore Star Alliance Lounge should do better. True, there is a small free bar here, free-pour open 24 hours a day, but it has only a very basic selection of booze.

There is Tiger beer on draft, one single type of cheap white in a bucket on the worktop, the same brand of red next to it, and a very spartan collection of five bottles of spirits. Curiously, these are offered in 'half-sized' 0.5 litre bottles. There is Chivas Regal, Bacardi, Absolut Vodka, Sapphire gin, and Jack Daniels. There are also plenty of miniature bottles of water to take onto the plane.

Bathrooms

Amazingly, there are no showers, nor a bathroom, not even toilets in this lounge. It is an amazingly bad decision, and one that has confounded many passengers. However the bad news is that as a Star Alliance gold, there is no access to showers at Singapore. If you have a Priority Pass card, you are better off using the much improved Ambassador lounge.

To access the toilets, exit and turn sharp right: they are only 10 meters down the corridor.

Business Facilities

At the far end, behind the giant TV, is a small business centre with six fast computers: however, it can be hard to get children to stop playing games on them if you need to work. There is no printer.

The lounge has free WiFi.

There is a Magazine rack in the centre of the lounge: for once it is pretty good with a large number of European newspapers, along with plenty of copies of the SilverKris magazine. There are however few other magazines.

Access

The lounge is open 24 hours a day, and indeed Singapore say that it is the only lounge open overnight: however the SilverKris lounge is unguarded and ungated from 1am to 4am, and you can pop in here to use the showers: it is also a much better place for a sleep. There is also the amazing new Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Gold lounge in Terminal 3, which is quite a walk, but which has a better bar.
