SAS Scandinavian Gothenburg Lounge

As the only real 'airline home lounge' in Gothenburg, the Gothenburg SAS Scandinavian lounge is fully equipped, and better than you might expect.

Despite the lounge being quite small, there is an excellent view of the airfield, two separate lounge areas with comfortable seats, a self service buffet and a good bar, which is self service. Wifi is fast, there are special work desks, and even a couple of dedicated offices, plus a children's play area.

Gothenburg SAS Scandinavian lounge review

The SAS Scandinavian Gothenburg Lounge is quite easy to find in the small airport, being directly after security just past duty free, and located next to the Menzies Lounge. It's a simple scan your boarding card to open up the barriers to enter: if you have a more complex ticket or a physical card, you have to wave over the lounge attendant, who is often busy restocking the buffet.

The lounge has been completely revamped of late, in the latest SAS style, which shows off the new lounge concept. It is larger than it was, opened out to 120 square metres, and with seats for 85. When the new Transatlantic flights are leaving, it can get pretty busy, but at other times the lounge remains a haven of calm.

The magnificent view of the apron and the runway through floor to ceiling windows is one of the best in Northern Europe, and is one of the highlights of the lounge, although surprisingly many of the seats face inwards, and not towards the view.

As you enter the signature circular SAS tables, with vast overhead lamps is clear, as are the amazingly uncomfortable wire frame seats around them.

Most passengers opt for the much more comfortable armchairs, which also have nearby phone charging sockets.

To the left as you enter is the children's playroom, while away from the windows are the two main buffet counters and the bar.

Walk further around, and there is a corridor with a view, with a shelf with two SAS self serve computers, for ticket changes and checking in. Then in the next room is the main loungy area, with banks of armchairs, at the end of which is a large work table. There is a door here for the single bathroom. Then at the very furthest part of the lounge are some 'guest offices', which are basically private rooms, and a phone room.

Food

There is a self-service buffet in the SAS Scandinavian Gothenburg Lounge, and it's better than you might expect, with two islands, one for food and the other for the bar, while a counter inland has a coffee machine.

There is a great breakfast buffet in the morning until 1000, with cold cuts, cheese, and lots of different types of bread, plus yoghurt and often strawberries. There is the usual butter, jam, and cereal too.

Later in the day salads and a couple of hot dishes dominate, with typically a pasta and a rice dish, plus soup and bread rolls.

A good selection on cheese and biscuits are also available as well as fruit.

Bar

There is a good self serve bar, but alas the two wines, red and white, are on draft, and from a no-name vineyard.

There is also beer on draft, and in bottles, in a trough with fruit juices.

The coffee machine is really quite exceptional, although there is also a jar of Nescafe.

Business Facilities

Free wifi, and just a bench where you can plug in your laptop.

Bathrooms

In lounge, but only one solitary bathroom, so queues can be long.

No showers.

Access
