Washington airport
Washington Dulles International Airport, pronounced DUL-iss, is by far the largest of the three major airports in the larger Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, including Reagan Airport and BWI Baltimore/Washington Airport (which actually has more annual passenger boardings).
The Dulles main terminal is a well-known landmark designed by Eero Saarinen, who also designed the famous TWA terminal at New York's JFK airport. It is huge, enormous, and concretey. The main terminal was extended in 1996 to 1,240 feet - Saarinen's original design length - which is slightly more than double its originally constructed length of 600 feet. A real curiosity of Washington Airport was the original design, featuring mobile lounges to meet each plane. These are in effect giant caravans on very large wheels. Now
midfield concourses allow passengers to walk between connecting flights without visiting the main terminal.
However, mobile lounges were still used for a very few international flights. It's a difficult to get one, and a rare treat when you do.

Frankfurt is now the most popular international destination, followed by London-Heathrow and rather curiously Addis Ababa in Ethiopia is a keen third.
The airport's terminal complex consists of a main terminal (which includes four of the original gates, "Z" gates), and two parallel midfield terminal buildings: Concourses A/B and C/D, with a total of 139 total gates and 123 airbridges. The AeroTrain, an underground people mover, operates to all of the concourses except concourse D where mobile lounges are still occasionally used.
