Brisbane Air New Zealand Koru Club lounge review

Air New Zealand's Brisbane International lounge is a large wide 771 square-metre open space catering to nearly 200 passengers, with large windows and views of Brisbane to the distance. To find the lounge, head airside, then up the escalator to the Singapore Airlines lounge, then at the top bear left.

If you are trying to get in with a flight on another Star Alliance airline, you may have to work hard to convince the staff on the reception desk that you are actually permitted in. There is a significant reason for doing this - the Koru Club is much brighter and airyer than the dark Singapore lounge. Alas, the windows don't face anywhere you can see the planes. The Air New Zealand Brisbane Lounge is actually a pretty decent lounge, if rather small and tired. It is in effect one long box, with a decentish view of the car park. The lounge was designed by award-winning US-based firm Gensler's, with three distinct zones, including a dedicated children's space away from main part of the lounge. Spot the curved lighting fixture which refers back to Brisbane's Story Bridge. Almost every seat has USB and power sockets, and don't miss the small quiet niche at the far end, with a great view of the lounge.

Food

The food offerings are poor in the morning in the Air New Zealand Koru Club Lounge Brisbane, with just a few biscuits (although they are amazing) but much more impressive in the evening. As soon as you are inside, you can see the wraps, sandwiches, cheeses and desserts . At lunchtime and evening there are several hot dishes. There are cold cuts of ham, salads, a variety of breads, and even sushi in the evening, complete with ginger, soy and wasabe and little dessert cakes.

Bar

The large new cocktail bar is on the left hand side, on the wall as you go in.

The beer fridge offers an OK selection, including DB Export Gold, Steinlager, Crown, VB, and XXXX Gold.

There are 11 bottles of free pour spirits, including Jim Beam, Red Label, Baileys, and Bundy Rum.

But it is the wine selection which is the best, with some amazing Kiwi wines.

Bathrooms

In the bathroom there are wo completely private shower suites with en suite bathrooms and amenities supplied by Antipodes.

Ignore the signs in there that seem to suggest there is a cupboard with towels: you actually have to ask at reception.

Business Facilities

There is a large business zone overlooking the terminal departures level.

There are two stands with newspapers. Magazines are on the left of the main door, while the papers are further in on the far stand, although the offerings here are rather poor; with just a few Australians, Courier-Mails and in the afternoon some New Zealand Heralds.

You have to race to get the newspapers quickly, before they all vanish (and many people take them onto flights).
