Qatar Platinum Lounge South Doha

The Platinum Lounge South is located on concourse A and can accommodate up to 140 passengers.

It includes a quiet area, a prayer room, bar and restaurant, complimentary wifi, ala carte dining or buffet, and showers.

Upstairs from the Gold lounge, it is larger and better equipped, with better food, and during the day can be very quiet, but in the evening and early morning can get packed. NEWS: Qatar Airways has unveiled Platinum, Gold and Silver lounges at its hub, Doha's Hamad International Airport, with access for Privilege Club loyalty members and oneworld alliance card holders in economy, to access the dedicated lounge corresponding to their frequent flyer tier status when transiting through Doha.

Doha Qatar Airways Platinum Lounge South review

The brand new Doha airport Platinum lounge would, in the days of yore, like a year back, have been called the 'Qatar First Class lounge'. It's not, and in the very confusing nomoculture of Doha, and indeed Qatar Airways, it is only accessible to those in economy with a Platinum frequent flyer card, or in First, or with a oneworld Emerald card.

A new lounge, opening in early 2022, it is vastly better than the old, and overcrowded, now closed Qatar First Class lounge on level 2, which was just for frequent flyers, but nowhere near as good as the Qatar Airways Al Safwa First Lounge, which if you have access, is a much better destination.

The lounge is also hard to find, being tucked away in the rather un-reguarded Southern end of the A Concourse, without any signs as to where to find it. You turn around the corner after leaving the teddy bear statue, and there is just what seems to be a small corridor with a desk. If you ask at the desk, and with the right cards, you are directed upstairs to the Platinum lounge.

You enter in what seems like another corridor from the lift or stairs. Walk around the corner, and there is the dining room, on one side, which is split into two with a large central table and the refectory area on the other side, while on the other side is a small hidden door into the snooze area. Carry on walking and you come to the main central part of the lounge, with banks of seats on one side, separated by a central table with a coffee machine and snacks. The other, left hand side of the lounge is slightly raised, and has a large walk up bar, and the most comfortable seats.

However, if you enjoy a view, which the old lounge never had, there are vast floor to ceiling windows with views onto the tarmac.

There is also a small rest and snooze area, tucked in on the opposite side of the corridor from the dining room. Unlike the snooze area in Gold and the main Business lounge, this one is kept quite dark, and it is much better than either.

Food

The main joy of the Qatar Platinum Lounge South Doha is the quite excellent dining. Not quite as good as you'd get in the official Qatar Business Class lounge Doha, but still really most excellent.

There is a separate dining room, which is surrounded by large long buffet counter. All day there is both breakfast on offer, with cereal, and a selection of hot and cold food. There are a couple of large tourines, with stew, curry, rice and pasta. In the next bay along is a large salad bar with everything from cold cuts of ham, to plenty of cheeses and different bowls of greeery.

In the next fridge is a good selection of desserts.

However, if you visit at the right time, there is full ala carte dining, with menus on the table and waiter service. Now, the options aren't great, and the service can be a little slow, but it is a definite step up over the gold lounge.

Bar

The Doha Airport Qatar Airways Platinum Lounge South is equally good for drinking.

There is a large staffed bar in the second room, up on the little raised stage. It's quite a sociable area in the evenings if you sit at the bar, where the bar staff will mix up cocktails on demand. There is also a decent selection of wine behind the bar.

However, if you prefer to serve yourself, there is a small fridge in the dining area, and a separate small fridge under the small island with a coffee machine in the second room.

Free wifi, but otherwise no special facilities.

Bathrooms

In lounge.
