Lufthansa Business Dusseldorf Lounge

If ever there was a very standard Lufthansa Business Class lounge, Dusseldorf would be it.

The Dusseldorf Lufthansa Business lounge does the basics, but no more. There is a decent bar, hot food (of a simple variety) and some comfortable seating.

The one thing it doesn't do is atmosphere. It is about as welcoming as a dentist's waiting room.

However, the lounge is easy to find, there are good airfield views, and it's not too bad for an hour or two.

Dusseldorf Lufthansa Business lounge review

If you head to the Lufthansa Business Dusseldorf Lounge, you may be making a mistake. Many Star Alliance Gold passengers head here under the impression it is the old lounge at the airport. However, there is a much better hidden lounge, of the Senator Lounge variety, which is vastly better.

Finding the lounge is easy: the Lufthansa Business Dusseldorf Lounge is off the 'main drag' of the airport, up the stairs and over the bridge.

The lounge is pretty standard Lufthansa fare: it is one long straight lounge, with windows overlooking the apron and the distant runway.

Alas the one thing that the lounge doesn't do is style: the Dusseldorf Lufthansa Business lounge is as bland as it could be. Grey carpets, beige armchairs, and one of the most antiseptic dining areas you have ever come across, with just hard metal chairs and plain white tables. Hygienic, but not particularly comfortable.

This is at the far end of the lounge, on the right as you enter. Off this dining area is a smoking room, which is an odd place to put it, as smoke drifts in as you eat.

Further back in the lounge is a notable feature - a gate directly off the lounge. This was used occasionally when there were regular transatlantic flights from Dusseldorf, but is now very rarely in use. Beyond here is the dining area, with a strange very isolated hot food pod, a cafe and bar station against the wall, and a salad island bar, but the 'special of the month' culinary podium.

Further along, some attempt has been made to screen off areas with chipboard boxes in a steel angle frame, but it's not very good.

Finally at the far end of the lounge is a quiet area, with two semi enclosed areas with sofas and small white coffee tables.

If you are a Star Alliance Gold member, you would be much better off heading to the (quite distant) Dusseldorf Senator Lounge at the same airport, which is much more welcoming.

Food

There is hot food in the lounge - but the problem is, it is pretty basic. There is just one tub of whatever curry or chicken mix is on today, and a pot of rice or pasta, and that's it.

However, occasionally, the Lufthansa Business Dusseldorf Lounge with a 'special'. Quite often this can be a Japanese special, reflecting the strong Japan influence on the culture in North Rhine-Westphalia. If you are lucky, there is a hot, slurpy, Ramen station.

Bar

There is a bar here, and it is OK, but don't hold out too much hope for the wine.

There is a box, with chilled water, with a couple of white wines, a rose, and three red on the worktop. There is also a sparkling wine, typically a Prosecco.

Beer is in the fridge on the worktop, in bottles.

There are also two draft beer taps, with Alt beer, a speciality of the area.

There are a few bottles of spirits on the upper glass shelf, and a soft drinks fountain.

Business Facilities

Free wifi.

There are very few power sockets in the lounge, and the few there are, are all of the Euro round pin type.

The newspaper rack is an anomaly. The Dusseldorf Lufthansa Business lounge is one of the few lounges to still keep a well stocked newspaper rack.

Bathrooms

In lounge, and pretty poor.

There are two showers, but they aren't brilliant. Ask at reception for a towel and amenity kit.
