Malaysia Airlines First London Heathrow Lounge

The Malaysia Airlines Lounge Heathrow First Class lounge is a bit of an oddity, when you first think about it. With only four Business Class seats sold on the MH A350 LHR service with First access, why bother having a separate large lounge, with pre-flight dining and bar. And buffet. And showers. Particularly as Malaysia has closed almost all of it's outstation lounges.

The reason is it's a historical leftover, from when Malaysia's A380 first started flying 15 years ago, and the lounge had a revamp.

However, it's there, and does have all the perks, for the few oneworld Emeralds who can take advantage.

London Heathrow Malaysia Airlines First lounge review

The Malaysia Airlines Lounge Heathrow First Class lounge is a light bright space, which still feels fresh nearly two decades after it opened. There is an amazing bar, open all day. Waiter service with menus on the tables. And great views over the runway.

The First Class Malaysia Airlines Heathrow Lounge is right next to Gate 6, which MH generally use, making for only a short walk when the flights are called. The entrance is a blink and you'll miss it affair. Enter up the short corridor beside WH Smith newstand, then take the lift (or stairs) to level 3. There is a vast reception area at the top, where you can also store your suitcase in the gold panelled cupboard at the top.

To the right of reception is the small First lounge, complete with many Malaysian artwork and paintings, some of which are worth MYR 3 million, which got Malaysia Airlines into a fair amount of difficultly when the true cost was discovered.

The lounge looks spectacular, and is frequently deserted, with stunning floor to ceiling windows with a great view of the runway, and the distant hills of Hounslow.

However, chairs are somewhat rigid. There is a large dining area, with square angular tables - no less than 12, for the original 12 First passengers of an A380. Then past the buffet area is a small sofa, with some more comfortable arm chairs, and a surplus of cushions.

It's this little quiet area at the end of the First Lounge that really feels like first: the rest has a somewhat dull atmosphere.

However, there is a walk up bar, and you can sit at the bar if you want to, or at the single computer desk. Through the class you can see all the rest of the passengers in Business Class: this area tends to be somewhat quieter.

Food

There is full a la carte dining in the Malaysia Airlines Lounge London Heathrow First Class lounge. Menus are on the table, and offerings include eggs or ommilet in the morning, or Asian noodles or soup in the evening.

Don't miss the Malayisan Sup, which is a kind of soup with noodles and an egg. It's quite refreshing.

In the middle of the Malaysia Airlines first class lounge Heathrow there is full buffet, but it's slightly more limited than the Business Class side, with mixed asian and western dishes, from rice and noodles to sausage and eggs and beans in the morning.

Even the snacks are good, with samosas, sandwiches, curry-puffs, pastries, cereals and fresh fruits.

For the morning flight there is a good breakfast spread, with cereal, scrambled eggs and beans.

Bar

There is a great Bar, which you can sit at while the barman mixes you drinks. He mans both the Business Class and the First Class sections of the lounge: hence, although there is plentiful Moet you may have to wait quite a while to get a drink, however there is also another counter with a rack of spirit bottles, including Glenfidditch and Gordon's Gin.

Down below in the mini-fridge there is beer with Carlsberg, Kronenberg and Tiger Beer.

Wine is also pretty good, and sometimes there are special bottles on the First side.

Business Facilities

There is a grand total of one PC in the lounge

There is also a TV in the quiet area, which kind of defeats the point.

There are plenty of power points of computers.

Newspapers are good, in a wooden folding cabinet by the window. There are most of the Malay papers, a Straits Times, and the Telegraph.

Magazines are spread out below this display.

Bathrooms

Unbelievably, the First lounge has it's own dedicated bathrooms, and there are also a couple of shower rooms, which are clean, swish, and modern.

There are amenity kits in the showers.
