American Airlines Flagship Miami Lounge

The American Airlines Flagship Miami Lounge is one of the largest on the AA network.

It has great views, a solid food selection, and is huge. Best of all, with American's lenient access requirements, so many people have access to this lounge. It is one of the best domestic airport lounges in the United States.

There is a large buffet style dining area, a good self service bar, and plenty of seats. Then again the American Airlines Flagship Miami Lounge needs it, as it can get packed, and then some.

Miami American Airlines Flagship lounge review

It's easy to find the American Airlines Flagship Lounge Miami, as it is right in the middle of the concourse in Miami, close to the Skytrain at gate D30.

There are the usual big sliding doors, and then normally a huge line up as three people take turns to check your boarding card, before sending you up in the lift or up the large curvey white stairs, with a large black card. You'll need this to get in the doors of the Flagship Lounge upstairs - otherwise you'll be sent to the neighbouring Admirals Club.

Here there is also a separate customer service desk for checkin and flight changes.

The American Airlines Flagship Miami Lounge is 29,000 square feet, so it's truly huge, and by far the biggest Flagship Lounge on the network.

It really is big enough for a long wander around, as it features all kinds of different areas, but alas all are done in the usual 'house' style, so there isn't all that much variety.

Near the entrance is the usual showpiece lounge seating facing the terminal, but few people sit here.

In the centre of the lounge is a large area with glass walls that looks out over the concourse, and with high bar stool type seats looking down over the hoy-paloy.

Just inside the entrance and to the left is a cinema room, although the screens here are fixed on one channel, and you can't change them.

Then on the right is an area which is almost like a Business Centre, but quite open, before you get to a triangular area with rows and rows of leather chairs. This side of the lounge has excellent views of the apron and runways, and lots of natural light in the mornings.

Next up is the large silver wine bar, and opposite it, a bar with self serve spirits.

At the far end of the lounge is the dining area, with plenty of standalone tables, booths, and high tables.

There are two main fridge areas, and an area making omilettes in the morning, and nachos in the afternoon.

Here, there is a small hidden door, with the entrance to American's Flagship First Dining.

Returning along the interior side of the lounge was more seating, as well as the bathrooms and showers. If you turn left, there is another much quieter are of the lounge that many travellers miss. There is there more traditional lounge seating in here, and it is much quieter, along with the private seats with high backs and a shelf.

There were also some daybeds.

Food

The Miami American Airlines Flagship lounge has a large buffet, with breakfast until 11am, and then lunch merging with dinner.

For breakfast you can make up a Full Cooked English, with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, eggs, and beans. There is also a cooked to order omelette section, and mini-yogurt parfaits plus cereal.

Then for lunchtime onwards, there are plenty of salads, cold cuts, cheese, ham, small appetisers, chicken, salmon, tofu, sweet potatoes, and green beans. In the hot tubs you can often find a chicken or a curry, along with pasta and rice.

Crisps, bread, biscuits and scones complete the mix.

The lounge has a live cooking station near the buffet from 3pm onwards, and it makes a variety of evening dishes.

If you are in American Airlines First Class, don't miss the Flagship First Dining, which is an exclusive dining facility for passengers travelling in three cabin first class on a few of AA's routes. In effect from Miami, this is in American three cabin 777-300ER first class to Europe, or South America, plus passengers on American Airlines three cabin first class between Miami and Los Angeles. There is full waiter service with a la carte dining, and a very good menu. The First Diningroom here also has a small bar.

Bar

There's a self serve wine area, a champagne area, and liquor area.

The American Flagship Lounge Miami wine bar area is right in the window, and looks pretty classy, with designer lights overheard.

The wine itself is in a little trough in the middle of the bar.

Opposite it, is the 'liquor selection', which basically means plenty of bottles of spirts along the bar top, all free pour.

The lounge has several refreshment stations set up throughout the lounge, including espresso machines, but alas no barista-made coffee.

There were also several of the new Coca-Cola type machines, which dispense a couple of dozen different kinds of drinks.

There were fridges with Acqua Panna and San Pellegrino water.

The American Airlines Flagship Miami Lounge beer selection is worthy of note: it is in a small bar fridge to the right of the bottles of spirits, and it is very comprehensive.

Best of all, there is Bollinger champagne!

American Airlines also has a make-your-own Bloody Mary station, which is rather unusual.

Business Facilities

There is a small business centre, although it can be noisy, as it isn't separated from the main part of the lounge.

There are three quite fast PCs, a wireless printer, and plenty of space to plug in your own device.

Free wifi in the lounge, and very fast.

Newspaper rack on the corner as you come in.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are in the lounge, off the main central corridor.

The lounge also has six shower suites, , and featured CO Bigelow amenities.

American Airlines has consistently done a great job with its showers, which are large, beautifully designed, and each with two showerheads.

Access

The American Airlines Flagship Miami Lounge access is based on your ticket. There is of course access with a first or business class ticket on American Airlines or a oneworld airline, either internationally or on non-stop transcontinental flights between Miami and Los Angeles.

Frequent Flyer get a boost, with access to Silver members on British Airways, or Qantas Gold cardholders, including Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members. This is a real change - previously you needed to be a Sapphire member. However, Admirals Club members are left out in the cold, to go to the smaller club next door.
