Plaza Premium arrivals lounge Hong Kong
One of three Plaza Premium lounges at Hong Kong airport, the Plaza Premium arrivals lounge HKG is the smallest of the three, but airside, before security, and is designed as an arrivals lounge with a vast number of showers, but only limited dining facilities. It is rare however for an arrivals lounge in that it has a bar. The large Plaza Premium Arrival lounge Hong Kong airport is a great place to freshen up after the long flights from Europe or over the Pacific; it is much larger than the Cathay Pacific lounge opposite. The Hong Kong International Airport Plaza premium lounge (arrivals) is quite hard to find: once you exit customs at either the top or bottom of Terminal 1, head to the centre, and follow the signs to 'Trains to City' and then, when you see three escalators heading into the basement marked 'Transport to Mainland China' and 'Tour/Hotel coach' follow these down. The Plaza lounge is on the left, at the start of the tunnel. There is only one small red sign, by the train station, pointing to this lounge, just before the Cathay Arrivals lounge is the Plaza Arrivals lounge on the left hand side. The reception desk by the ramp will happily take your money, or process a priority pass card. It's pretty expensive, at 400HKD which buys you a two hour stay, meal, shower and 15-min massage. But in dire straits, such as before check is open when you are just hanging around, it's useful. The Hong Kong Plaza Premium arrivals lounge takes the form of a rectangular underground cave, with the rumble of trains overhead. There are no windows, and high dividers emphasise the claustrophobic nature of the lounge. As you enter there are work pods on each side of the central aisle with a large white table, and the bar straight ahead. There are group of 4 plus 4 chairs on each side, which aren't particularly friendly for single travellers. The food bar is ahead and to the right, with a salad bar on the right, and hot food at the far end. Up a side corridor are the showers, in separate stalls - the assistant at the desk will hand you a towel. At the other end of the lounge are the cubicles for massages. The general feeling of the lounge though is of quiet calm (except when the tube trains rumble by). It is genuinely a place where you can get some peace and tranquility, and it is very useful on a early morning flight before heading into the city if your hotel isn't open yet.
Food
Food is basic but serviceable in the Plaza Premium arrivals lounge Hong Kong. There is hot food in a silver bowls on the work top, which is split into two with rice or pasta on one side, and meat of some kind, maybe in sauce if you are lucky, in the other. Next to this is the salad bar, which is genuinely quite good. There are five or six salad bowls, in a bed of ice. It's all been washed in decent water too. There are salad sauces next to it. Fruit is in a pretty wooden trolley on the great white bench. On the other side is bread, soup, and a heated cabinet with meat pies and sausage rolls.
Bar
The bar again does an OK job at the Plaza Premium arrivals lounge Hong Kong, and is better than you may expect. However, it is a cash bar! This is unexpected seeing the high price you'll be paying for entry, but OK for some decent wine. The wines are mainly new world with some mainstream vineyards, however there isn't a wine list - you have to ask for what you want. The bar can also make you up a cocktail, with a dozen or so spirits on show. There is also beer, in cans, in the fridge.Bathrooms
There are racks and racks of showers in the Plaza Premium arrivals lounge Hong Kong. There are decent shower suites: a basic shower is HK$180, however for HK$600 you get a private bedroom with a shower, and access to the rest of the lounge. While not a bargain, the chance for a nap after a long flight is quite a good deal. The showers are a bit small with shower products just generic shampoo and shower gel. Don't miss the free 15 minute massage you get with entry. Ask at reception, but you'll be upsold a more expensive massage than your free one, and the timing is a bit random - you may be halfway through eating, and expected to drop everything to get your slot filled.
Business Facilities
Business facilities are OK with seven work pods with computers. These are relatively new, but only the four opposite reception are connected to a printer. There is free wifi in the lounge; get the code at reception. It's pretty fast. There are only some very basic newspapers, and all are marked 'for use in the lounge only'.Access
There is a sliding scale of prices: there is a list on a laminated sheet at the door. It starts with just a basic shower, then a 2 hour or 5 hour stay, or 3 hours with a bedroom. Anything above the basic HK$180 shower gets you access to the food and drinks. You can buy a two hour pass for 400HKD (38 GBP, 58USD, 70AUD). Priority pass, and indeed a whole host of other lounge memberships are also accepted. You can access the Hong Kong Plaza Premium arrivals lounge if you are in transit for longer than 4 hours, but a much better deal is to go back airside, and use the lounges there, which also have an alcoholic bar and which are larger.
