Lisbon Airport is Portugal's main airport, and located just 4 miles (7 km) from the city centre of Lisbon. Known by locals as Portela Airport (after the village that used to stand here) it's official name is Humberto Delgado Airport, but few if anyone ever calls it that.
In parts swish and modern, other parts are somewhat older and tired, it is the 18th-largest airport in Europe in terms of passengers, with 29 million a year. In August, most of them seem to be heading through the terminal.
Lisbon airport
The airport is the main hub of Portugal's flag carrier TAP Air Portugal, and handles many daily flights to Brazil.
There are two terminals at Lisbon Airport. They are not very close, and although you can walk between them, most people take the free shuttle bus.
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Lisbon Portela Airport.
Lisbon Airport International Terminal 1
Terminal 1 is the main terminal for TAP Air Portugal and Star Alliance airlines such as Swiss and Lufthansa. There are two check-in halls, with a small self check-in area, and a much larger one for those with luggage having 68 desks. There are 47 gates, but only 17 have air bridges (mainly for long haul flights) so you'll typically end up on a bus to your plane.
Don't miss the Sardine shop dressed like a circus tent in the non-Schengen area. It has the wow factor, that's for sure.
Lisbon Airport International Terminal 2
Terminal 2 is a much smaller and newer of the two terminals, used solely by low-cost carriers, and almost all aircraft have a bus to the terminal. There are few facilities in Lisbon airport terminal 2 other than a small bar and a few shops. Ryanair and easyJet use Terminal 2.
