NEWS: The British Airways lounge Vancouver has now closed, and British Airways now use the Plaza Premium Lounge.

There are both Business Class and First Class British Airways Vancouver Lounges. They are either a welcome oasis, or a small pokey box, depending on when you arrive. However, with just one flight a day, and the lounge open for only three hours a day, it can be a fight to get access to a rather crowded lounge. Arrive, and leave early, if you want to see what is now BA's sole Canadian lounge, following the closure of Montreal and Toronto lounges.

Vancouver British Airways Lounge

The British Airways Vancouver Lounge is up high on the balcony, with access via a lift or stairs, at the far end of the international pier. Both lounges (First and Business) have great views over the runway and mountains. The furniture is classic BA lounge furniture, slightly uprated to Galleries style. It's also slightly hemmed in, perhaps reflecting the small lounge size, and the large numbers of customers who can have access. The sofas on the Club World side in particular are hemmed in, so it's rather like sitting on a bench for three hours, with a little rickety table to eat off. On the First Class side, there are nice orange arm chairs, slightly further apart.

Food

Food isn't great in the British Airways Vancouver Lounge. Indeed, there seems to be an assumption you'll eat on the plane. Both sides have small sandwiches, a hot soup, biscuits, cheese and biscuits plus crisps (what the US call chips). And that's about it. There are also the usual carrot and celery sticks.

Bar

By contrast to the food, the drink selection is top notch in the BA YVR lounge. There is free wine, beer and spirits, all around a silver bar (on the Business side) and Gold (on First). There are also three craft beers including an IPA from Steamworks in Gastown, a Vancouver brewery.

Vancouver British Airways Lounge

First and Business Class British Airways, Gold and Silver members of Executive Club, and Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire frequent flyers. As a oneworld emerald of sapphire you also have access to the British Airways Vancouver Lounge on any oneworld flight, including Cathay Pacific, Qantas or indeed British Airways. There are consistent problems at the BA YVR Lounge with oneworld status holders being denied access, totally contrary to oneworld rules: it seems to be a training problem with the staff. In particular, if you have Qantas Frequent Flyer status you must print a copy of the rules to show the lounge attendant, who may not be aware of access rules. Of course, if you have access to the BA Vancouver Lounge, you also have access to the Cathay Pacific Vancouver lounge. However, and it's a big snag, that lounge only opens at 8pm for th JFK flight: this is at just the time BA start boarding, but you could just rush into get 10 minutes in the Cathay lounge if you hurry.
