British Airways Glasgow Lounge

British Airways have spent 800 thousand pounds renovating the old bmi lounge space at Glasgow Airport. The transformation of this 450 sq m lounge includes innovative features such as the customer welcome pods with LED-illuminated mesh back-panels featuring BA's famous logotype.

Glasgow British Airways Galleries lounge review

The result is an excellent new lounge for up to 150 passengers, featuring a whisky snug, large seating areas, computer areas, decent catering and a large supply of food, soft drinks and alcohol.

Working with luxury brand partner Pernod Ricard the company Graven created a series of smaller social spaces that support customerÂ's needs to work, relax and meet including the worldÂ's first Glenlivet Whisky Snug showcasing the finest single malt Scotch whiskies and featuring decanter-style cut glass light shades, bespoke leather and cast bronze upholstery, diamond-cut mirrors and a heartwarming digital fireplace.

Lighting has been specially created to enhance the impression of space, warmth and provide intimate sub-spaces.

The Glenlivet Whisky Snug is the first bar of its kind in a British Airways lounge in the worldÂ--it was also a clever design solution to the problem of an awkward corner offering a great view of the runway. The Snug also features spindle-back chairs and our own Harris Tweed lampshades, which complement walls upholstered in Harris Tweed fabric and buttons, cast by Brazen Studios.

As expected, the re-designed facility incorporates many elements that feature the materials and skills of Scottish companies, including the Bridge of Weir Leather Company, Bute Fabrics and Glasgow jewellers Brazen.

As with other Galleries Lounges, art is an important aspect and works by graduates of the Glasgow School of Art are displayed throughout.

Food

As usual drinks and snacks are complimentary and the main catering space has been designed as the focal point of the Lounge, with shared and more intimate banquette style seating, as well as coffee and deli serving stations.

With ceilings wrapped by natural oak and a mix of ceramic and oak flooring, the new Lounge is a warmer and livelier space that supports customers in the widest way depending on whether they want to work or relax.
