Singapore Airlines Business Class Singapore Changi Lounge Terminal 3

The core hub lounge for Singapore Airlines, the SilverKris Business Lounge at Terminal 3 features four separate seating sections including pods for working, an extensive self service buffet and a new full service bar with a barista in the morning and a bartender in the evening.

Divided into two halves, it is well worth while having a wander around both. Right after reception uis the main cocktail bar, and great airport views and the natural light. Turning left finds the main food area, and two vast relaxing rooms beyond. It is in the middle of Terminal 3 (by Gate 5) and up the escalator.

Singapore Changi Airport Singapore Airlines Business Class lounge Terminal 3 review

The Singapore Airlines Business Class Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 is vast, one of the largest on the planet, with lots of space, and at last gives Singapore a modern flagship lounge.

When you have finished being wowed by the brand new Terminal 3, and going gaga over the shops, the forest, and the waterfall, you can have a look at the lounge.

Rather like Singapore itself the Singapore Terminal 3 Silver Kris Lounge looks pretty impressive (and it should be - it was brand new in 2021), but it is let down by some of the facilities, but it's still up there with some of the great airline lounges of the world.

The business lounge finally looks like a proper flagship lounge, with high ceiling and natural flights and new mood lighting. There is a marble floor with brown coloured carpet, marble walls, and lots of black leather armchairs. The lounge is huge - and it needs to be, because this place gets very busy with all the Europe to Australasia transfer traffic.

The old 1990s style lounge had bitten the dust - even though it was really only a decade old - and in its place there is a much larger lounge, with a home from home style. If that is your home is a vast warehouse filled with dozens of different styles of seats.

The brand new Singapore Silver Kris business class lounge is located on the upper level of Terminal 3, to the left as you enter after security. There is a rather obscure sign, towards the A gates, and then an escalator with a huge SilverKris lounge sign, and odd flower motif. Instead of turning sharp left to the Business Class lounge, you now walk straight ahead. Left is now the First lounge, while the Business lounge exists within the footprint of the old first class lounge and The Private Room.

The new business class lounge now largely comprises of four main spaces, plus the bar area. This is immediately to your right as you enter, beyond which is an area that has a complex mixture of seats. Sofas, curved benches, high seats with stools, you name it they are there. There is even a sort of semi noodle dining area, with round tables and installed lazy susans. This area is often more quiet than the rest of the lounge, and this new area of the lounge embraces natural light flowing from the apron.

To the left of the main entrance, you pass the famous 'work shelf' up a small side corridor, which has a rare combination of window, shelf, and power sockets. It's not immediately obvious, but it is a superb area to get work done while enjoying the view, and you can see the boarding gates and the tarmac. Blink as you miss it on the way past though, as ahead are the service desks, with staff to rebook your delayed flights, and then ahead is the main dining area.

This area is always the most busy of the new SilverKris Lounge at Terminal 3, comprising a space that's much more open than the previous business lounge, although it is still cluttered, with loads of different types of seats and dividers defining zones within the zone.

There's a distinct marble vibe, with marble floors and worktops, tables, and walls, plus a colours palate on the chairs and sofas of deep fried orange and blues.

The main dining area of Singapore Airlines' all-new SilverKris Business Lounge at Changi T3 is here, with firstly a wall of fridges, having the famous sandwich fridge among them, then the four hot serving areas, with momos, noodles, English, and Asia in the sections. At the far end of which is a self serve bar area.

An island has a veritable plethora of coffee machines, plus lots of tea bags and other hot drinks.

Inland from these are the high dining benches, made of black marble of course, with high stools to sit and eat your noodles. It's not particularly comfortable, but it's bearable.

This area, as utterly modern and contemporary as it is, has a cacophony of noise, thanks to the hard metallic surfaces, and it's often much quieter to divert to the other two rooms, ahead, and to the right of this lounge.

Ahead is a light bright modern and contemporary space, albeit with a heaviness of the same drab black and orange colour scheme and furnishings. There are some long benches here, and numerous examples of Singapore Airlines quotidian 'work chair'. This work pod has high wrap-around walls that offer great privacy, plus adjustable LED reading lamps and mains power, USB and wireless charging points.

There are some great windows here, and more of the same high long work benches.

To the right it is the same story, with another room having impressive long wide area with floral displays.

While you are wandering around, it's also worthwhile 'having a sniff. There is Singapore Airlines' new 'Batik Flora' signature scent wafting through the lounge.

The new Singapore Airlines Changi lounge at T3 has also learnt a lesson from what went before. There are mains power and USB outlets almost everywhere, a every chair, along the work shelf, hidden in the dining room walls, and tucked away below the banquettes and sofas. There are also pairs of wireless charging points on most tables and on the shelves.

Food

The new Dining area is large, in the room on the left, with three rows of many different types of hot and cold food. However, dining wise, you may have thought you've struck rock bottom when you see the famous SilverKris 'wall of sandwiches'. Having four different types of sandwiches, stacked floor to ceiling, it is so mundane, as to be only worth of note if you are from British Rail and hunting for a design for sandwiches.

However, Singapore Airlines has never skimped when it comes to dining, at least on the ground, and the centrepiece SilverKris lounge offers up a veritable plethora of dishes, reflecting destinations around the globe.

It is Singaporean cuisine - what can broadly be said to be a melange of Chinese, Malaysian and Indian influences - is always at the forefront. Much of this is made up of different types of curry, laksa, dumplings, and fishball noodles in vast silver tureens, along with a rack of salads (dressing is in the big jars on the right), chicken wings, and plenty of cheeses and yogurts. There is plenty of bread (including a Singapore flag made out of bread dough) and some very bad sandwiches tightly wrapped in clingfilm.

With an expanded footprint, Singapore Airlines' new SilverKris Business Lounge features four distinct dining arches, with one catering to fresh noodles, another to dumplings and momos, a third to rice, curry and meat dishes, and yes, even one offering up a full cooked English breakfast.

Around here there are long cafeteria type marble table with high wooden stools, but this feels isolated and drafty - few people sit here unless the lounge is really crowded.

Bar

The bar in the Singapore Changi Airport Singapore Airlines Business Class lounge Terminal 3 is OK, but rather prosaic; with two 'touch down' bars by the dining area and in the quieter room. These have a selection of spirits on the worktop, and beer in the fridge, with Singa and Tiger beer at the forefront of course. Sprits are Bacardi, Smirnoff, Gordon's Gin, Jack Daniels, Black Label, Campari and Zinzano to keep you happy.

Beside the dining area there is also an automated beer pouring machine, which tilts your glass to pour the perfect Tiger, and a wine dispenser. This wine dispenser alas only has two type of white wine, which is an opportunity that has definitely been missed, however it is quite fun to press a button, and out comes a squirt of white wine.

Champagne is in a bucket on the worktop, but it is quite poor. There is a sign which says "please approach our staff for wine or champagne", and that champers is decent - normally Charles Heidsieck.

However, it is the main bar area by the entrance that gets all the attention. This is designed as a 'sports bar' with large TVs above the bar, and stools facing it: alas this means it can quite often be difficult to get to the bar, particularly in the evenings when every seat is taken. However, if you do, it's a delight, where the barman will mix up cocktails on demand for you.

Bathrooms

The new Singapore Airlines SilverKris lounge overall design also includes new bathrooms. It contains 15 of spacious unisex shower suites. Each suite includes its own toilet plus a raised bench where you for your carry on bag and sit while changing.

As with the bathroom, amenities are supplied by luxury perfume house Penhaligon's, which is also behind the new Singapore Airlines business class amenity kit.

The shower area is very nice, lots of white and marble - indeed, its blindingly light, but with very trendy huge showerheads.

Business Facilities

Fast free wifi, however there are no longer any PCs in the lounge.

Access

Singapore Airlines operates flights out of two terminals in Singapore. It has First and Business lounges in both the new Terminal 3, and the older Terminal 2, which are open to both Singapore premium fliers, and passengers on Star Alliance flights in First or Business although this is not advertised. Star Alliance Gold members in economy are not permitted into these Singapore Airlines lounges, but are entitled to use the Krisflyer Gold Lounge at Terminal 3, which are much worse, with a very poor bar. Many star alliance golds make the trek over to Terminal 1, and instead use the new Thai Airways lounge, which has showers and a good bar, but conversely poor food.

Sleeping overnight in the Singapore SilverKris Lounge

It is possible to sleep overnight in the Singapore SilverKris Lounge, but this is not recommended, and there are better options - such as a budget room at the transfer hotel. If you are absolutely desperate the staff will give you an (economy) blanket and pillow, and then you can bed down in the far room (under the gull wing lights) however the lights are not turned off, the music still plays, and the cleaners polish the floor around you. You have 2 better options: either bed down in the main terminal in the free 'Snooze' lounge, or wait until 1am, when the First Class lounge is left open and unlocked, with no staff on the door, but with the lights off: it is much more peaceful, and you'll have a good 4 hours before anyone wakes you up.
