Saint Lucia's main airport, and one of the largest in the Caribbean, is unofficially called Vieux Fort airport (hence the airport code, UVF), but in official documents known as Hewanorra International Airport. It is on the southern cape of the island, and a good half hour drive from Castries, the capital. The airport is large, handling three quarters of a million passengers a year and and with a runway long enough for Airbus A330, and Boeing 777 aircraft. However, of the seven parking positions only two are suitable for wide-body aircraft. The main destinations are the daily flights on British Airways and TUI Airways to London-Gatwick.

Saint Lucia Airport International Terminal

At the moment the airport terminal is pretty old and tired. There are proposals to build a new terminal building at Hewanorra to accommodate Saint Lucia's growing tourism industry. It is envisaged that the new terminal would be more than twice as large as the current facility.
