Muscat Airport Guide: If you want to see what a small modern airport in the desert looks like, head to Muscat International Airport, Oman's main airport. Formerly called Seeb Airport, it is only 20 miles (32 km) from the Muscat's old city and Oman Air's hub.

With 20 million passengers a year it is no tiddler, and has vast duty free areas.

Muscat Airport International Terminal 1

Muscat Airport's main terminal was brand new in 2017, and is still a shiny glass and steel structure in the middle of the desert. But it is quite small - a sort of mini Dubai or Doha, if you will. It has 45 gates, mostly with air bridges.

Muscat Airport Domestic Terminal 2

The old terminal (now called Terminal 2) is actually a little larger, and is the old main international terminal, built in 1970. It's been redecorated since, and is T shaped. thanks to the lack of glass in the terminal, it actually feels a little cooler than the new terminal. It has 23 gates, but notably not a single airbridge, so you'll be stuck on a bus to the plane.

You have two options getting from Muscat Airport to the city. A taxi or a bus. Chauffeur services are also available, but must be pre-booked.

Muscat Airport shuttle bus services

There are domestic buses to Muscat Airport, but they aren't very comfortable. All are operated by Oman National Transport Company (Mwasalat), and run throughout the day and night.

Route 1B operates between Muscat Airport and Ruwi bus station.

Bus Route 1A operates between Muscat Airport and Mabela.

Route 8 stops at Muscat Airport en route to Al Mouj-Al Khuwair.

The famous Irish Bar at Muscat International Airport is one - indeed the only - place to get a beer at Muscat Airport. The joy at finding this place is just as incredible as the prices, but it is most welcome.
The Muscat Airport Irish Pub also does some basic food, such as burgers.
It is up the escalator by Duty Free, and on the upper floor.
