Brisbane Singapore Airlines Silver Kris lounge Business Class review

The brand new Singapore Airlines Brisbane Airport lounge has opened, and it is a vast improvement compared to the airline's older lounge in Queensland.

As you enter, you realise the lounge has been vastly uprated. At the door is a printed glass artwork 'Signature Screen', that sets the tone for the whole lounge. Then the main lounge area itself which has natural light and great tarmac views.

There is seating for 80 passengers, with banks of armchairs, while over on the right is more of a dining area, with larger more upright chairs.

The Brisbane Singapore Airlines lounge is designed as a 'home away from home' which includes luxurious, natural elements such as marble and stone. Expertly fitted out by arete the lounge has the usual Singapore Airlines business pods lining the walls, with a table to work at, and power sockets for your devices.

All the chairs have power sockets nearby, and at the launch attention was shone on the two high-backed chairs near the window which look over the whole lounge.

Just as in Sydney, behind reception is another small area called 'The Gallery'. It is designed to be roped off for VIPs, or a touchdown area if you only have a few minutes before your flight. Here there is one of the only TVs in the lounge.

There is now a dedicated dining are with rows of one plus one dining tables.

The new Singapore Airlines Brisbane Airport lounge is just behind the new Plaza Premium lounge, and along the corridor up the escalators from the new Air New Zealand lounge. To access it just take the escalators up from the main concourse of the International Terminal.

Food

The food in the Brisbane Singapore Airlines Silver Kris lounge Business Class is better than you might expect for a small regional lounge.

In an alcove near the door is the buffet, with hot and cold food. Normally there are two hot dishes per day. There is a decent bar, with Aussie sparkling wine and an impressive beer collection.

Food was improved in the revamp in the Singapore Airlines Brisbane Lounge. There is a selection of hot and cold snacks which is regularly replenished. Don't miss the Satay sticks, and the Singapore noodles with prawns, and small mini piesin the heated cabinet.

For the lunchtime flight there are two bowls of salad (Caesar and Greek) with wraps, yoghurts and a small cheese and ham board.

There are plenty of sandwiches in tight plastic wrapping, and lots of Sushi on the island bar opposite the main one.

Late in the evening there is hot food, with bowls of pot noodles, lots of sandwiches and a heater with chicken satay (peanut sauce is on the table below the heater) and spring rolls, which are very good.

Bar

The bar at the Singapore Airlines Brisbane Lounge is worthy of note: for a start there is a well stocked beer fridge, with bottles of everything from Crown to Harn.

There are several bottles white wine, and one sparkling wine, and two reds on the worktop, next to the coffee machine.

Spirits are a bit mixed: they on a small shelf at the back of the refectory area: There is Bundaberg rum, Johnnie Walker black label, Chivas Regal, VSOP, and Gordon's gin plus some others: in total about 11 spirits. There is no cocktail waiter to make up drinks for you, alas, however there is a good range of mixers in the fridge beside them.

Bathrooms

There are smart, regularly cleaned toilets in the Singapore Airlines Brisbane Business Class Lounge, down the corridor to the side of the food area.

There are also two private shower suites.

Business Facilities

Pretty basic, but with three of the small working suites with a chair and a desk in a small enclosure, along with power points. Alternately, along the window, there is a shelf with power points.

Free wifi, although the airports main supply can be faster.

The newspapers normally include the Australian and the Courier Mail.

Access

The Singapore Airlines Brisbane Lounge Silver Kris is open to Singapore Airlines Business Class passengers, Krisflyer Gold, Star Alliance Gold on Star Alliance flights.

Virgin Australia Velocity Gold and Platinum members are also welcome prior to all Singapore Airlines flights, and before to Virgin Australia flights to Los Angeles.

Occasionally Star Alliance Gold members can be turned away, if it is too busy. However, in this case there is also the much larger Air New Zealand lounge opposite.
